About
All about the place, the history and the people…
Step inside and let us tell you about it…
Located high above the beach on Scotland’s Golf Coast, the site offers amazing panoramic views along the vast stretch of sand to the Bass Rock, May Island and Firth of Forth.
Not your ordinary private hire site, the Log Cabin at Ravensheugh Beach is steeped in local history…
Back in 1960, the 12th Earl of Haddington (grandfather of the present Earl) arranged the construction of a beach log cabin in traditional Canadian style for his lovely wife, to remind her of her native Canada. They spent many happy hours up high above the sands of Ravensheugh relaxing and enjoying the timeless tranquillity and beauty. Lady Haddington is in the old photographs with Henry Harrower the building contractor, below.
Sure to light up your wedding photos in breathtaking style, the Log Cabin site can be customised to your needs with beautiful marquee and decor making for a truly tranquil and picturesque wedding venue. Indeed many people who book here come back again and again for more family wedding’s and memorable occasions.
How it all came to be…
The late Earl of Haddington was a fine gentleman of great vision and foresight, and in 1976 in collaboration with the local council, gave permission for the John Muir Country Park to be created along the coastal fringes of his farms at the Tyne Estuary. The current owners continue to honour this arrangement, while East Lothian Council maintain the footpaths, and bridleways, for the benefit of all.
John Muir, who spent his childhood in and around Dunbar, loved the wild solitude and beauty of the windswept coast. In later life in the USA his ideas gave birth to the National Park movement as we know it today.
The site high above the beach at Ravensheugh is as good as it gets, and we owe it to John Muir to preserve it in its simplicity, for enjoyment whether on a wet winters day or a warm summers evening.
